Gardening, that's what's up.

It's October already?

So I'm pretty sure the past few weeks have been the craziest, meaning crazy busy, weeks ever. So sorry I haven't gotten anything written up in a long while.
Oh, but it is worth mentioning that I did successfully complete my week of under 10 minute showers (:
Anyway, a few weeks ago, we had our first Eco Rep meeting. So what do I do as an Eco Rep? Believe me, I didn't know before the meeting either. Basically, I spread sustainable ideas around campus  and around my hall. Sounds easy enough, yes? So if you see me tailgating this weekend under a go green or sitting at a table giving away free stuff, know that I am going to be promoting sustainability or something of that sort I'm sure. But for sure it was nice to meet new people and I do look forward to getting to know all the Eco Reps. (:
Meanwhile at McConnell, the garden is looking so good, thanks to those who helped pick the plants, make signs, plant, and water. The peppers are looking so good and so is the lettuce. I will for sure try to get the signs up soon since they are just sitting in my room. I'm thinking maybe I'll throw a dinner for Naturally members soon? I would hate for the veggies to go to waste.
The recycling is going so well too! When I checked the bins last week, they were super full so thanks guys (:

Well I think that's kinda everything I have to say. I've haven't been able to do much lately with all the tests and deadlines. But if  anyone has a service idea or sustainable program idea please please let me know, cause that's what I am here for. Hopefully I will have some coming up as soon as I get a chance to take a breather.
Thanks to everyone who have helped me get through this busy time. I will need you for the rest of the semester I am sure so don't go away.

One more thing, if you want to see more about what Eco Reps really do, check this out. And more motivation to look, there's pictures of me and the other Eco Reps up. like what?! So check it.

Let's take it one week at a time

So after accepting this eco rep job along with running my club, they tell me to start blogging about my sustainability work. Basically the assignment was, 1) pick something sustainable that you don't already do and do it for a week 2) blog about it.
I've been just a little bit swamped with work lately so I've been kinda slow about getting my blog stuff up. I know I was supposed to do my sustainable action last week, but in the craziness, I forgot. So starting today, I'm going to take under 10 minute showers. Did you know, you use somewhere between 16 and 20 gallons of water in just a 5 minute shower? I feel like I totally read that in a seventh grade math problem or something and it's just been stuck with me since. I know this is something everyone can do, I mean, don't we all give in to temptation and linger just a little bit longer in the warm showers sometimes? Well no more long showers..... at least for this week.
Since I have yet to complete my week of sustainability, I figure I'll just write a bit on what I've been working on at McConnell lately. The major accomplishment for last week was getting the recycling bin system back up and running for the new semester. TAMS has kept the recycling system going successfully for, I want to say 5ish years now? We put one bin at every wing just for recycling. Every week a volunteer wing representative takes it downstairs and sorts it in to paper, plastic, cardboard, and aluminum. I finally got all 14 wing reps chased down with kinda an understanding as to what to do.... So we'll see how smoothly that runs this week.
Also a bunch of us cleaned out our garden a few weeks back. So this week, we'll be planting our veggies, which is super exciting. So stop by and come see it sometime next week (:
